Thank you for considering working with me.
Before you book a strategy session or workshop, please feel free to check out a list of frequently asked questions, and if you have any others, ask away and I will add them in for reference too.
I am a self taught content strategist in my professional life, and in my personal life I am a creative writer.
In case you are wondering, “yes”.
The two worlds often collide.
Gosh I get asked this question a lot.
The answer is as follows:
Professionally? No, I don’t build websites.
Personally? I maintain and work on my own website 90% of the time.
What does this mean?
It means yes. I can build websites, but no. I don’t do it for profit.
Yes. If I am working with you or teaching you, and you have a website issue, of course I will go out of my way to help you as best I can.
I always recommend wordpress.org or the Rainmaker platform (which is built on wordpress.org)
I get asked this question a lot too.
The answer is “no”, not really, but kind of.
I am not a copywriter, however I have studied copywriting for close to 4 years.
This is another ripper of a question.
If you were to ask Seth Godin whose work I have studied for some time, then he would say marketers are the people who want to change the culture.
If this is true, then yes. I am a marketer.
I studied marketing along with copywriting for nearly 4 years so yes I do have skills in marketing and I do teach marketing, but I am a lover of content first and foremost, and a marketer second.
This answer ties in with the others.
Not really, no….. but kind of…. yes.
I use content marketing in my job, but no I am not a content marketer.
First and foremost, I am a strategist who specialises in helping business owners find “gaps” in their online business.
To do this means I need to have skills in:
Education and Learning Systems
Copywriting and more.
Seeing as I have a lot of these skills for work, I also use them to teach, and my preferred method of teaching is storytelling with creative writing.
This is a great question!
I didn’t set out to be a strategist, although I am naturally predisposed to this type of work because of my nature.
I love problem solving and working on my own, and before my daughter was born I was operations manager of a transport company where I allocated transport for 8 hours a day, which is a bit like playing chess but with trucks and cars all day, every day.
In 2016 when I set out to write a story, these skills were already part of my natural abilities but I had no idea they could be used for content.
Fast forward to 2019, and I understand that everything online comes from the ability to use these skills.
Because I studied marketing, copywriting and content marketing for the story I wrote, I ended up with the skillset of strategy + content + marketing + writing = which kind of makes me a strategist who specialises in content marketing and writing.
Again, this is another skillset which came from writing a story back in 2016.
Because I was studying content, marketing and writing, the story I wrote taught these subjects.
Content marketing is the ability to engage with customers using various forms of content like blog posts, podcasts, video and images etc, so it is a natural progression to do this across multiple websites.
To make it less educational and more fun, the best teachers use storytelling. Seeing as I was studying their work it seemed natural for me to move into multiplatform storytelling and use the skills I had learned from content marketing and strategy.
My teachers are all public figures who share their work freely online.
The best advice I could give for anyone who wants to know how to get started is as follows:
Start where you are.
Use what you have.
Do what you can. ~ Arthur Ashe
Another common phrase I use a lot which I first heard from Mia Freedman is:
“Jump on board.
The digital train moves so fast, nobody is an expert. Get on board and see where you end up.”
I love that saying.
My “train” has taken me to places I couldn’t even comprehend three short years ago….jump on board.
You’ll be amazed at where you end up!
I can teach you how to use content in a way to serve your customers which you may not have thought of before.
The best way for me to help you, is to teach you to change your posture in the way you view your marketing.
Rather than marketing and selling to your customers, choose to help them, guide them and serve them instead.
The online world is exactly the same as the offline world. The only difference is that in the online world we use content to help guide our customers along their journey with us.
