“Why are you helping me?”
The woman sitting opposite the man with outstretched palm was curious.
In one hand was a red pill.
In the other hand was blue pill.
And the woman knew very well, it had taken an awful lot of trouble to get them both.
She leaned over the desk, scooping both pills out of his hand, then sat back in the chair, before changing her mind and leaning forward in anticipation of his response.
“Why am I helping you?” he asked.
“The same reason anybody helps another I suppose.
In business school they call this a win/win deal….yes?”
The man looked at the woman with the pills and noticed she was no longer holding them and wondered where they went.
“Have you chosen which pill to take already?” he asked.
The woman look puzzled.
“What do you mean have I chosen which pill to take?” she responded.I took both the red pill and also the blue pill. Click To Tweet
The man sat awestruck at the audacity of it all.
“You know….. I don’t think that’s such a wise idea…..those two pills are designed to be used on their own…..not put together and taken at the same time.”
The women listened to what the man was saying, curious all of a sudden about his concern of her well being.
In the end she couldn’t contain herself. Why wouldn't I take both pills together? she asked. What's the point of one pill without the other? Click To Tweet
And besides…..what are you implying?Surely this isn't the first time someone has taken both? What are you saying? That you peddle pills and yet nobody ever takes the red and the blue at exactly the same time? Click To Tweet
Are you telling me the world chooses either cleverness or bewilderment but not both cleverness and bewilderment simultaneously?”
The woman watched the man intently, looking for unspoken clues.
He looked down.
He looked up.
And then looked her straight in the eye.Do you know the story of The Killer and The Poet? Click To Tweet
The woman shook her head.
“No. I don’t….why?
The man laughed.
“Yes you should know it.
you came here wanting to mirror the stars and sell cleverness to buy bewilderment, or bewilderment instead for cleverness, then yes….I would think one aught to be acquainted with the side effects which come of a result of it.”
The woman looked confused.
“Such as?” she asked.
“Such as both states should not exist at the same time.” he stated.
“The pills are designed the way they are for a reason.
You choose ONE.
Do you want to be clever?
Or do you want to be bewildered?
Do you want to be a killer?
Or do you want to be a poet?
“And what position exactly was that?” she asked.
The man looked at the woman sternly.
“You will find yourself on the outside.
A mistress of darkness and light.
A mistress of seduction and satisfaction.
A mistress with a yearning for one more than the other.
The marriage of cleverness and bewilderment is a marriage of heaven and hell with the killer AND the poet as the bride and her groom.
The woman shrugged her shoulders.
“I think you’re being a bit dramatic don’t you” she said.
“A killer and a poet?
A marriage of heaven and hell?
A toxic brew of cleverness and bewilderment?
Doesn’t sound like such an unfortunate position to me.
