“Where did you get these from anyway?”
The boy swivelled gleefully in a clockwise direction “Whhhhheeeeeeee” before coming back to centre and spinning in the opposite direction…..”Wooooooooo”
Occasionally the motion would become too much, and he would stop spinning long enough to pick up various trinkets found on his mothers desk.
“This one?” he said picking up the rose gold spinning top. “Where did you get this from?”
The mother looked at the child who was disrupting her space like a hurricane in a china store.
“That one was a gift…” she said
“From who?” asked the boy before setting off on another spinning spree. “Whhhhhhheeeeeeeee…….Woooooooooooo” then stopping once again and picking up another trinket from the desk.
“What about this huh? It looks like a coin……. a funny looking coin with a funny looking “B” on it….”
The boy picked up the coin, flipped it in the air, tried to catch it but didn’t, and mother and child watched as it landed on the floor “B” side up.
“Could you pick that up please?” asked the woman sternly.
The boy did as he was told and placed it back on the desk, flicking it into a tailspin and setting it off into another direction.
“What about these huh? They look fancy…..
are they real…huh?
Is it real gold? Are they real golden dice….”
The woman looked at her son.
“Yes” she said. “They are real.”
“They must have cost a lot huh….how much did they cost mum?”
The woman looked at her son again.
“I didn’t buy them” she said.
“Really?” said the boy. “Well where did you get them from then?’
The woman sat thinking of the time she received them.
“I won them” she replied.
“You won them? queried the boy. “How? How did you win the golden dice mum?”
The woman looked at the boy,
and then began:
“I won them by learning to steer my own ship.”
