Are you ok?”
The hostess looked at the woman seated on aisle B33. She looked slightly green and extremely uncomfortable and it struck her she would soon pass out, vomit or even both.
“Um, yes…. I think so…” replied the woman.
I just don’t fly very well that’s all. Do you have some ice maybe?”
The air hostess smiled.
“Yes of course. I’ll be right back.”
The woman sat in the chair and closed her eyes before opening them; lunging forward and grabbing a sick bag to vomit.
The pilot of the light aircraft stood on the tarmac welcoming passengers with arms outstretched.
As holidaymakers smiled with joy, the woman clutched the gold overnight bag and fresh new sick bag from the airhostess on the flight before.
With weak knees, and heart rate racing, she stood on the runway frozen, willing herself to get into the little plane which would take her where she needed to go.
She thought of the conversations before she left, and wished she had taken her friends advice, but it was too late now.
The passengers boarded the plane and yet still the woman stood there.
“Are you ok?”
The man stood next to the woman, just in time to catch her as she passed out.
The deck of the 140-foot sailer was warm, and the woman lay outstretched in a coral coloured bikini as the man with large biceps taunted her.
“You don’t like to fly?”
“No.” replied the woman.
And you get claustrophobic? asked the man with a smile.
“Yes.” said the woman.
“And you get seasick, is that right? he asked incredulously
“That’s correct” said the woman starting to get cranky with the man making fun of her.
“you don’t like talking to people?” he continued?
“Well…no…it’s not that I don’t like it….I think people describe it as “introverted.”
“Aha.” said the man.
“So let me get this right…..
You hate flying, you faint from claustrophobia, you get seasick and you’re introverted or don’t like talking to people…is that correct?”
The woman sat and thought for a minute.
“Yes.” she said
“Ok let me ask you this” said the man.
“Why did you go on a holiday adventure that involved a long haul flight, a lightplane air trip, a boat which doesn’t see land for 7 days and specialises in underwater scuba diving and cave exploration, and do it all while travelling solo?
The woman sat and thought for a minute before responding.
“I’m looking for something” she replied.
“Really?” said the man.”What is it?”
“I’m not sure” said the woman.
“All I know is my friend said:
“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure that you seek”
And so I’ve come to see if it’s true.”
